Michael Millgate (author of "Thomas Hardy: A Biography" and co-editor of "The Collected Letters of Thomas Hardy") has made available on-line his attempted reconstruction of Thomas Hardy's dispersed library. As he states in the introduction to his text: The aim of this project has been to reconstruct as fully as possible the contents of Thomas Hardy's library at Max Gate, his Dorchester home, at the time of his death in January 1928. In so doing it seeks to provide an accessible resource for scholars and general readers interested in the specific books that Hardy owned, in the overall character of his library, and in the somewhat melancholy story of that library's dispersal
