A digital portal to collections of the National Library of China was opened on May 29, providing online search and accession to digitalized resources of the library. As the latest public service platform launched by the library, the D-portal combines 37 Chinese-language data banks, 77 foreign language data banks, 16,000-odd periodicals in both Chinese and foreign languages, as well as special resources including local records, Dunhuang documents, periodicals of the Republic of China (1912-1949) and doctoral dissertation and master's thesis, all purchased or established by the national library

RLG has announced CAMIO, Catalog of Art Museum Images Online, a database of art from prominent museums. CAMIO's contents span all continents and range from 3000 BC to the 21st century. The UK Copyright Service has announced the launch of its long awaited on-line registration service for copyright works. The facility allows you to register work directly over the Internet, so cover will start immediately from the time the work is uploaded. There are no limits on the amount of files that can be uploaded, so even large works can now be registered on-line

Two new studies confirm that IEEE journals, magazines and periodicals are less than half the price of competitive publications. The annual Periodical Price Survey published in the 15 April issue of Library Journal averaged the prices of 4,893 titles documented in three Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) databases. Based solely on price, the survey reveals that the average cost of an engineering journal in 2005 is $1,683, and the average cost of a math and computer science journal is approximately $1,262. Using the same calculation method, the average price of an individual IEEE Journal is just $549

Statistics Canada has announced a redesign of one of its key web-based modules, Canadian Statistics. Canadian Statistics provides a selection of free statistical information on a wide variety of topics, from agriculture to wholesale trade. A search engine offers access to the data, which may be browsed by subject, by province or metropolitan area. New features include a more robust search engine, alphabetical and new table lists, print-friendly versions, adjustable font sizes, and related data recommendations
The Open Video Digital Library Toolkit project will provide museums, libraries and other institutions holding moving image collections with the tools to create Web-based digital video libraries. Many museums and libraries have important video content that would be of great interest to their audiences but lack the necessary resources to address the many inherent challenges of building a digital video library. Using an iterative development process involving formative evaluation by project collaborators, this project will create and make available open source software tools that will enable organizations to create their own digital video libraries
