CARLI has purchased the Saskia digital image archive

CARLI has purchased the Saskia digital image archive from Scholars Resource. The collection contains 30,000 digital images of paintings, sculpture and architecture, including images from many important collections: the Prado, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Uffizi, and the Louvre as well as archaeological sites in Greece, Italy, Turkey and Egypt. The images are displayed in both high resolution and thumbnail format. Additionally, the descriptive data about the images includes references to the occurrences of these images in 19 major art history texts, including Gardner’s Art Through the Ages, 12th edition; Understanding Art, 7th edition; Art and Ideas, 10th edition; Discovering Art History, 4th edition

On March 12, 2006 OCLC added COinS to its Open WorldCat web pages. COinS is an acronym that stands for Context Objects in Spans, which represent a standardized way to embed citation metadata into a web page. COinS are actually included in the HTML code on the web page using OpenURLs. This allows other processors—such as your web browser—to find the citation metadata and generate links to other resources that are accessible via OpenURLs

Statistics Canada's electronic publications at no charge

Effective today, all electronic publications on Statistics Canada's Web site will be available free of charge. The Agency has been steadily increasing the volume of free content on its Web site to respond to the information needs of Canadians. This latest move makes available at no charge more than 150 electronic publications for which fees were previously charged. Statistics Canada will continue to charge for print versions of publications and for other electronic products and services, such as CD-ROMs, specialized data tables and customized retrievals from CANSIM and the Canadian International Merchandise Trade database.

Allan Legere digital archive

The law department at the University of New Brunswick is opening a special digital archive devoted to Allan Legere, New Brunswick's worst serial killer. Law librarian Ann Crocker has collected 60,000 pages of transcripts, including original court sketches, and will preserve the case in a special section of the university archives. It's been 17 years since Legere, an escaped convict, went on a killing spree in the Miramichi area

New Zetoc RSS service

Zetoc is a bibliographic service that is freely available to UK higher and further education institutions and available via subscription to Research Councils, Irish educational institutions and CHEST members. It provides access to the British Library's huge electronic table of contents of journal articles and conference proceedings. Zetoc has a search interface, with OpenURL links to enable users to access the full text of articles online, and an email alerting service.

You can now choose to keep up-to-date with latest research articles by using the new Zetoc RSS service, which will deliver information on selected journals directly to you.

Zetoc RSS provides an RSS link alongside each of the journals in the RSS journal list. This enables you to subscribe to feeds for individual journals. You can subscribe to the feed in various ways, depending upon your chosen RSS reader.

The feed gives the journal title with the ISSN and publisher and the individual article title with a description that includes the author name(s), journal title, issue and page number(s). Each article has a link to the full record page in Zetoc. The information that you see displayed will depend upon the RSS reader that you are using.

Xrefer partners with INCOLSA to bring online reference to Indiana libraries

Xrefer has signed an agreement with Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority (INCOLSA), to make Xreferplus available to consortia members at a discount. Vigo County Public Library, in Terre Haute, has already subscribed to Xreferplus under the new agreement. INCOLSA is the statewide network providing leadership in cooperative activities for Indiana libraries. With 2,200 member organizations, INCOLSA helps provide superior library services to Indiana residents

Wiley forms new partnership with Epocrates

John Wiley & Sons, Inc. has announced a new agreement with Epocrates, Inc., provider of mobile and web-based clinical applications, to make Wiley's recently-acquired InfoPOEMs medical content available to Epocrates users. Under the terms of the agreement, Epocrates will integrate selected POEMs—daily summaries of the latest evidence-based medical research—into its free DocAlert medical news service. DocAlert messages are distributed to the mobile devices of more than 500,000 healthcare professionals and help clinicians stay abreast of current information regarding clinical trials, drug withdrawals and study data. With the addition of InfoPOEMs' content, the DocAlert service will further provide clinicians with important content to support decision-making at the point of care
